Why “LoveNotes”?
I’ve thought on and off about creating a blog for years. But I wasn’t ready to pull the trigger until recently, having reached a point where I’m ready and wanting to share more broadly (and I stumbled on an easy tech solution at just the right time!).
LoveNotes is named for my love of writing by hand. Born (I think) in middle school when Loretta (a very cool 8th grader) and I (a very uncool 7th grader) took turns passing a fat 5-subject college-ruled notebook back and forth. Overnight we would scrawl young-teen stream-of-consciousness about teachers, classmates and the like, for the other to delight in and respond to the following night. This was so much fun (and undoubtedly quite therapeutic for me). We never were found out! And this paved the way, I’m now convinced, for the journaling habit I would start only a few years later.
I now have dozens of beautiful journals, filled with notes that my 15 year old self began writing…and at this point it’s almost 4 decades worth! Notes that helped me process struggles, notes to help me recall amazing days with more clarity… All of them serve to remind me how different things used to be (and often how far I’ve actually come).
But there’s another experience that informs the name “LoveNotes”. It’s a deep realization that I do and always have loved people. Specifically the younger ones inside the grown-up looking people. The ones who are ‘naive’, ‘innocent’, closer to spirit - inside every single human.
This blog has permission to sound controversial notes, playful notes, whimscal, provocative, even profound notes - all offered in Love.
It will evolve as all things do. I welcome you for any part of the journey, as well as your own musings in response (once I figure out how to allow them!).
